St Ives approached the fixture with a mantra of playing and keeping the ball , from the get go , having nearly conceding 3 in the first ten minutes last week, this seemed a sensible plan.
And they started as such , frustrating the opposition with some passes around the back as kettering started at 3/4 press. This quickly became a full press enabling a bit more diagonal passes into the centre. st ives dominated possession but were soon under a bit of pressure due to an unfortunate penalty corner. A fantastic save from Denman to his right kept kettering out. A number of attacks from St Ives failed to break through the kettering defense as they flooded the circle with 7-9 players on most attacks, causing a lot of congestion and ives just unable to break through. Theatre counter point is that as the game went on, Kettering’s threat became less and less, resorting to long ball hits to a high forward. One such ball did find the kettering forward but Denman made an excellent close range block on the first time hit, sealing his MOTM.
Dod went to Aaron in a very closely fought dod and Mom vote.
Ives certainly felt like they played well and controlled the game , but also found it an enjoyable and good challenge of a game, just a shame not to get 3 points.
