The graveyard game on Saturday brought the mens 5s against a tough oppo in south 6s, having played against their development side earlier in the season and getting drubbed we were not surprised to see 90% of the same squad show up under a different guise. The match started under as expected cambridge pressure which St ives stood firm against until a wicked shot into the right bottom corner left keeper Jamie with no chance 1-0. This is how the first half started to pan out, cambs advancing down the wings a slap to the top of the D and then a player on the P spot aiming to smash and grab a goal. With Jamie using every part of his body to keep the shots at bay including a stick save on the line in which drew applause from the oppo, although he let himself down with one through the legs. First half 4-0 down.
2nd half started much the same with sustained cambs pressure on a tired st ives defense scoring again to cement the win. St Ives kept there heads up through the second half and had some quality moments for themselves with slick passing and runs bamboozling the cambs midfield.
Although the scoreline makes it look like a onesided game St Ives can hold their heads up high knowing that once injuries have healed and experience grows that they can hold their own against most of the league as they certainly were not out skilled or out paced on the pitch.
This weekends game is cancelled so a well needed rest and recover before we go again on the 30th
