St Ives 2s vs Peterborough City 5s
Ives 2 took on an inform Peterborough team who were level with us on points however we were just edging them on goal difference. This was a game of six points.
Ives lined up with a very rotated lineup however we were still optimistic, team talk led by JOEP was that of composure, confidence, patience, and work ethic. Ives knew that they had their work cut out for them but were determined nonetheless.
Ives started confidently passing around the back and linking up play in the middle, they were also able to find passes down the line on multiple occasions, causing lots of problems for the Peterborough defenders eyes were able to win a multitude of short corners however none of these worked. Peterborough replied with their own attacks on the break, fantastic goalkeeping from Jack kept the score 0-0. On the stroke of halftime Ives were awarded another short corner, the ball was injected, the shot was taken. The shot was saved. As the ball was parried out the D, positive reinforcement and encouragement was given, making Jacob chase the ball that had just narrowly alluded him, to his and everyone’s surprise he was able to regain possession on the side line. A quick one two with John W opened up a gap for the ball to be played into the D where the Ives forwarded delicately deflected it into the goal. 1-0 at half time.
Hockey is a simple game when done with patients control and 11 players on the pitch Jacob decided he didn’t want to make it a simple game. Following warnings from the umpire he picked himself up a green card. It was then later followed up with a yellow card because one was not enough. Will also got in on the action and fancied getting himself a green card as well. This left Ives in a sticky situation as the pressure was on however the back line defended superbly and kept the lead. A few more chances were created in the second half, but they were not finished, fortunately Ives kept their shape well and kept disciplined as the game was seen out at with a 1-0 victory.
Massive congratulations to everyone involved it was a tricky game, but we played well as a team and we got the win, keeping the clean sheet in the process.
