St Ives Mixed vs Wisbech Mixed
St Ives faced a strong and well-drilled Wisbech side in a fast-paced mixed fixture that kept spectators entertained from start to finish. With the game played in quarters, Ives took full advantage of the breaks to regroup, recover, and rethink their tactics—something they would need against a Wisbech team that looked dominant throughout.
Despite the pressure, it was St Ives who produced one of the standout moments of the match. Lucy evened the scoring with a brilliant finish, squeezing the ball just past the post from the top of the D—a perfectly placed shot that left the Wisbech keeper rooted.
Wisbech responded with sustained attacking play, but Chloe was outstanding in goal, repeatedly denying them and keeping the scoreline far more respectable than it might otherwise have been. Her reflex saves and calmness under fire gave Ives a fighting chance as the game wore on. In the second half, St Ives found another moment to celebrate. Jacob was able to get into the circle and managed to get on the end of a brilliantly waited pass from Jack, getting himself on the scoresheet—though at the cost of a fair chunk of skin as he went sliding in with commitment that can only be described as enthusiastic.
As the final whistle blew, Wisbech’s dominance was told in the scoreline, but St Ives showed real grit, flashes of brilliance, and plenty to build on.
Player of the Match: Lottie — for relentless work rate, smart distribution, and composure under pressure.
DOTD: Jacob — for falling over in spectacular fashion. How Matt escaped DOTD despite being hungover, dangerous driving, and borderline indecent exposure is a mystery to us all….
A spirited performance, two great goals, and plenty of entertainment—St Ives can be proud of the fight they showed.
