A week after the Christmas break for the season a team of 16 dedicated St Ives players turned up for a Mixed Game, supported by 3 more playing the role of Coach, Assistant Coach and Manager.
With plenty of subs and the sun shining into South's face, we started well playing as if we train together. A quick long corner pass to William, who was making a run from centre back, gave him the opportunity to skillfully dribble the ball into the circle before roofing the ball past the keepers near post. We had taken the lead!!! Minutes later another attack from Ives saw Miles rocket the ball back post for a Benham instinctual deflection into the goal (Miles' cross was going wide). 2-0.
South had a few opportunities to attack but it wasn't long before Miles extended St Ives' lead. 3-0 end of the first quarter.
A quick team talk later and both teams had renewed energy, South put on some good pressure with St Ives only managing 1 extra goal before half time, with a reverse cross from DJ with Miles playing the ball behind him into the goal. 4-0 into half time.
A goalless 3rd quarter was almost broken when South were awarded a P-Flick from a foot on the line, but luckily Drylie saved the shot.
The final quarter allowed St Ives to add another goal to their tally with the ball being worked out the back and DJ running the down the line with a little 1-2 with Mckenna, allowing DJ put the ball back post. He later undid the goal being carded for a tackle.
MoM: Drylie for the P-flick save (after a tie break between Miles and himself)
DoD: DJ, open goal miss and Card.
Certainly a game of memorable moments throughout with both MoM and DoD votes being spread around.
Through to the next round of the Trophy!!
