St Ives vs Wisbech
St Ives started the match brightly, setting the tone early with excellent structure and discipline across the pitch. Ives held their shape well and looked composed in possession, earning several short corners in the opening exchanges. Unfortunately, despite the pressure, they were unable to capitalise.
Just before the break, the deadlock was finally broken. Jacob won the ball back in a dangerous area and wasted no time, firing a fast-paced pass into the D where Tom H reacted brilliantly, expertly deflecting the ball past the Wisbech keeper.
Half-time: 1–0
Wisbech emerged for the second half with real intent, coming out of the blocks at speed. However, the Ives midfield and defence stood firm, maintaining their shape and calmly dealing with any threat that came their way.
Controversy followed shortly after when St Ives earned a short corner. The strike produced that unmistakable crack of ball meeting shin pad as it struck a Wisbech defender on the line. Despite what many believed should have resulted in a flick, the decision went the other way, with only a sideline awarded.
Moments later, Wisbech found a way back into the game. An aerial ball was played forward and controlled superbly by the attacker’s chest before they managed to nick an equaliser.
Despite St Ives pushing hard in the closing stages and giving everything to regain the lead, the match finished level. Wisbech left the pitch delighted with the point, while St Ives were left feeling somewhat short-changed.
