City of Peterborough 4 vs St Ives 2

St Ives 2 were beaten 4–2 away to City of Peterborough in a match that swung dramatically in the second half after a tight and disciplined opening 35 minutes.

The first half was a physical and competitive affair, with both sides cancelling each other out and chances at a premium. Discipline was tested when Alasdair Hart was shown a green card, with Jacob Parker following him to the sidelines shortly after, leaving the team to manage periods with reduced numbers. Despite the disruption, St Ives defended resolutely and went into the break level at 0–0.

Peterborough emerged strongly after half time and quickly found their rhythm, scoring three goals in rapid succession. The opener came from a well-worked short corner, struck low and hard and just evading Will’s best efforts on the line. The hosts continued to press and added two more, the third coming from a flick that was ultimately awarded despite excellent goalkeeping, giving Peterborough a commanding 3–0 lead.

A temporary stoppage due to injury proved to be a turning point, allowing St Ives time to regroup and refocus. Emerging with renewed determination and playing for pride, Ives began to assert themselves higher up the pitch. Their efforts were rewarded when Dave Jones’ powerful strike rebounded off the post, leaving Jack Benham perfectly placed to tap home and pull a goal back. Confidence grew immediately, and moments later Dave Jones got his deserved goal — a delightful touch that left players and spectators alike momentarily confused as the ball looped high into the air before dipping just behind the goalkeeper to make it 3–2.

With momentum briefly on their side, St Ives pushed for an equaliser, but it was Peterborough who had the final say, scoring a fourth late on to secure the points. Dave Jones and William Chappell, both of whom were recognised with player awards. Despite the defeat, St Ives can take pride in their resilience and character, particularly their response to adversity in the second half, and will look to carry that fighting spirit into their next fixture.
