Mens 1 vs Ipswich-East Suffolk 1

M1 climb to 5th with great team performance

St Ives made it 3 games unbeaten with a dominant 3-1 victory away vs Ipswich East Suffolk. Facing an IES team relegated from Prem, Ives were determined from the start and moved the ball with pace and purpose. Ives twice had the ball in the IES net in the first half, only for the goals to be ruled out by the umpires. The second of these was a fantastic first-time finish from Ashley Welland, after a pin-point cross from Ben Hildrey - a goal of the season contender that unfortunately would not count!

Ives eventually did take the lead after a great ball out from defence by Simon Shorter found a marauding Alex Prestage at right back, who in turn found Adam Stefanelli-Wilson. Adam beat a couple of defenders along the base line before slipping in Pete Liddle to slot home from close range. IES were restricted to half-chances as most of their long balls (aerials) were mopped up by the Ives midfield, which was well-marshalled by Alec Bryden.

The second half called for more of the same and Ashley Welland duly obliged, blasting home after good pressing from the Ives front-line. Ives picked up a couple of green cards but managed the game well to avoid conceding and letting IES back into the game. They then extended their lead to 3-0 through James Harris from open play. IES did manage to convert a penalty corner towards the end to spoil Simon Johnson's clean sheet but were well-beaten on the day.

Many thanks to the opposition for the post match teas, which were excellent.

Man of the match went to Ashley Welland, who scored a hattrick of goals only for two to be disallowed.
