Sunday isn’t a rest day for the Ladies 4’s:
The St Ives Ladies 4’s team travelled to Cambridge to play the rescheduled match against Cambridge University Ladies 4’s. Some of the team took the New (not so new route on the A14) and others took the more historic A428 journey. The roads chosen were not reflective of the age the drivers. Or maybe it was!
We arrived and didn’t quite know what game we were playing: was it hockey or children’s ‘Dress up Nelly’ - the team were a little confused upon arrival with green tops and white socks. However, the warm up was soon underway led by Helen and we all managed to get our heads in the game ready for what we knew was going to be a challenging match ahead.
Having played this team previously this season, we knew we had our game cut out and needed to bring out the best in the team (even after a game already this weekend and muscles aching).
The team walked on, walked on with hope in their heart holding a good defensive line, with Webby batting away many of the counter attack shots. The first half St Ives conceded 2 goals, but still had their game faces on and were following up and challenging any balls coming in on the attack.
After the refuel of Jelly Babies at half time, the team were back out strong holding the play at 2:0 and having a few opportunities to attack and break down play of the opposition.
The second half saw 3 further goals conceded and unfortunately the score finished at 5:0 - though this is not reflective of the efforts and drive each player brought to the pitch this afternoon.
Man of the match was awarded to Nat for continued chasing of the ball and strength on the attack and defence.
Thank you Pauline for coming to support us!
Rest up all and be ready for next weeks match report (oh sorry I mean game), where hopefully there’s a golden sky for the team to walk together onto the hockey pitch.
P.S: It was decided at teas that Chloe’s new name and how she will otherwise be known moving forward is ‘M.C Webby in the house’
