The 4s played their one and only friendly before the league starts against Saffron Walden. With only 10 regular 4th team players available they relied on the 5s to double up and provide the 11th man.
It was Saffron Walden who started pressing the St Ives goal early on. Despite a few chances from St Ives, Saffron Waldon took the early lead and built on this to half time. With temperatures climbing and tired legs showing in the second half by St Ives they were able to get a consolatory goal and fell far behind Saffron Walden.
With a bye in the first week of league fixtures, St Ives will have a break before starting their first match.
