St Ives 4s travelled to Newmarket with a bare 11 but with enough goalkeepers to fill a car. With their usual keeper Alex in goal, St Ives also had Adam Barrett-Drylie, Owen Bigwood and Jack Philip who all have played in goal but on this occasion playing outfield.
It was Newmarket who started the more promising and without the fine saves from Alex Beardall, St Ives could easily have gone behind. As the first half progressed, St Ives began to attack more and it was goals from Adam Barrett-Drylie, Jack Philip and Jack Benham that saw St Ives go in to half time with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
With temperatures rising in the second half and tired legs the game saw large pockets of space open up. Newmaket were able to get a goal back, despite another fine save from Alex he was unable to stop the rebound from going in. However, it was fellow goalie Adam Barrett-Drylie who scored his second of the game to restore St Ives 3 goal cushion.
A great performance from St Ives to continue their winning start to the season with 3 wins out of 3. Next week sees a stronger challenge against league leaders Kettering.
