Kettering 2s welcomed St Ives 3 to Bishops Stopford for the Ives “4th” (5th) game of the season!
With a rotated midfield, a debut for Dan Craven and high spirits, Ives started the game well, passing around the back and using the width really well. Continued progress was made throughout the first half with not only open play chances created but also several short corners won, which were unfortunately not converted.
The first half progressed and after a quick counter on the right side of the pitch the ball found it’s way to an unmarked Jon Wildin who took his time to tea up for a shot that found the bottom corner with expert precision. St Ives ended the first half with a 1-0 lead.
Into the second half and it seemed as if Kettering had had a good half time team talk as they seemed like a different side with a lot more aggressive attacking which prevented Ives from playing in the oppositions half, despite this Ives controlled the ball well and defended with poise. However unfortunately for the away side Kettering won and converted only their second short corner of the game. 1-1.
The last 10 minutes of the game was Ives ball, a lot of attacking and the majority of the possession, Ives looked hungry to get the 3 points. Some well worked moves and well placed passes resulted with Tom Hingston having the opportunity to score and end the game with a win however his efforts were denied but some brilliant goalkeeping.
Although a good performance from the 3s, it was a bitter sweet result as the 3 points were certainly achievable. Full time 1-1. Onto the next.
MOTM: Mr Dave Ranner, exceptional dribbling on the wings and a quality performance that certainly made up for arriving to the match moments before push back!
