A new pitch, a fresh chance and a team eager to get over their nightmares of Northstowe
Originally expecting 4 subs and a strong bomb squad to come on, Ives turned up with just 2 subs due to sickness of two players.
From the first pushback, St Ives played a brand of hockey fitting of their new environs, with short sharp passing, space and movement off the ball making for easy viewing on the eye.
However it was all for moot when a quick Bourne Deeping counter attack, in their shiny new kit, caught ives out and an overload of children passed the ball around keeper Denman.
Very much against the run of play, Ives continued their all out attack, with a PC converted by Jon Wildin bringing the scores level, before DJ scored two goals (I don't know, I'm at the other end, I'm sure they were wonderful goals worth of a far better paragraph of description) before an almost exact replica of the deeping first goal happened, with an overload getting passed around the pink panther.... which somehow earned him DoD....
Denman in goal also completed a number of sweeper keeper clearances to keep Ives in the game.
DJ completed his hatrick before halftime leaving it 4-2 at drinks.
A dominant second half performance from Ives saw very little converted out of many chances, and an increasingly tetchy deeping unable to score and resorting to their one defender, playing his 'one of two games this season' flinging aerials into corners of the pitch and hoping that the juniors would catch it.
A nail in the coffin was delivered approx 10 mins from time by Jon Wildin, to set the final scoreline 5-2
A great team performance, including Mr Ranner, who was imperious in his drive and determination. His attacking prowess was unmatched as he drove relentlessly at the dragons defence. Pulling their shape to pieces enabling an easy three goals for his captain.
(Not sure who wrote that last paragraph.....)
