So, Saturday comes and with it comes game day. Today takes the mighty 3's up the road to Glen Park and the rather lovely pitch at Spalding. Of course, our new pitch is rather lovely too. We digress.
A few stragglers and we are off - and are a goal down after a few minutes following a defensive mix up. As the game continues we find our feet; solid 16's from the defence, good runs from midfield (MC, AH), good movement from the wings and forwards. We make chances. We miss chances. We hit the opposition keeper, twice, three times. We work a penalty corner, and another, sadly also not converted. But this is promising, as the link up play is working well. We are getting caught in possession once too often, but are running back to cover. JW responds to a pass call in the D, only to find that it is from a Spalding player. Ker-ching.
Half time and 1-0 down but still very much in this; there is no doubt that with the right early passes we are creating chances and making life awkward for the Spalding defence. On 50mins another Ives press results in another penalty corner; hits the keeper, bounces around a bit, Joep picks it up in front of goal......1-1. Spalding respond well, we hold out but the pressure tells; another loose ball finds the back of the net and its 2-1. Ives dig in again, and for a few minutes the play really opens up and we find ourselves with more opportunities, and another short corner not converted. The last ten mins see us camped in our own half, defending well; a Spalding player is dismissed after a short discussion with the umpire, but it's not enough - he is back on and we concede two goals quickly, the last being the best of the game.
Onwards to next week when we welcome top of table Wisbech to Fortress Ivo. Well done guys, we keep going.....
