After a Saturday filled with rest, St Ives took on Peterborough on a Sunday following the fixture being rearranged from before Xmas.
Frankly, St Ives started poorly and Peterborough had three clear chances early on. They had a deflection narrowly wide, a shot saved by Denman (surprising in itself) and they even hit the post. The warning signs were clear and from then St Ives managed to haul themselves back into the game.
Against the run of the play, after a successful high press, the ball fell to Ranner in the D who made no mistake. Slotting it into the bottom right corner - 0-1.
The first half was cagey and following the goal not many chances for either team but St Ives went in ahead.
The 2nd half St Ives were much more dominant and limited Peterborough’s chances. The best chance of the half probably going to Hingston whose first time shot found the keeper and the follow up hitting the sideboard.
However, with 10 minutes to go Hingston spotted the run of Pawson flying into the D and after some deliberation and power, purposely picked out an immaculate pass to Isaac; reading the deflection off a defenders stick to perfectly find his path. Isaac coolly rounded the keeper and put some much needed distance between the two sides.
After the push back Hingston made a waist high stick tackle and rightfully got Green carded - solidifying his writing of the match report. Oppo also got a green card.
Ives held out for the 0-2 victory and go with confidence into next weekend against Cambridge University at 10am. Let’s hope they are hungover. Cracking team performance.
