On paper a tough opening fixture which resulted in a narrow loss but highlighted effective organization, effort and resolve. The first half finished level at 2-2, St Ives absorbing a dynamic St Neots attack but offering several glimpses of ambitious counterattacking intent. Indeed St Ives penalty corner routine proved to be more clinical with Tom twice coverting aerially and the away side taking a lead. A less conventional moment of aerial technique from St Ives left back provided light amusement all round! Space opened up in the second half as St Neots capitalized on an actively rotating subs bench and vocal home support. The upper hand was being gained via sweeping, high paced passing moves. A scrappy penalty corner eventually yielded a 3-2 lead which St Neots held relatively comfortably to the final whistle. In truth the margin could have been greater but for stalwart defensive efforts from Ian, George and MoM Jack. Some real body-on-the-line contributions.
