It was a reasonably hot afternoon in October at approximately 22% and with two subs and all knew early on that this could stretch everyone’s match fitness.
Ives started patiently trying to calve out space through the wings, but the visitors were on an Ives player very quickly and were able to monopolise the extra space that was being created.
One of the visitors managed to go on a mazy dribble from the half way line and as a result it opened up other spaces and the visitors were able to convert to a goal within the first 10 minutes of the match.
Ives were trying to play it out from the back and through the midfield, but the opposition denied Ives time on the ball and on occasions players became surround by 2 or 3 visitor players and they were able to win the ball back further up the pitch than Ives would have liked.
The opposition were also trying to get in around the back of the defence but Denmam was alert and managed to kick most of these through balls away.
Ives did create a few decent chances on the break with good combination play from JW, Ranner, Joyce, Morgan creating one or two near chances where the final pass just didn't quite run for them and the visitors defence managed to overload themselves with extra cover on many occasions.
A good half time talk by DJ got the team to come out fighting and we were matching them for attacking possession and it felt like there was more time on the ball to make the right passes.
The attacking possession ended up creating 3 short corners in the half in quick succession, but we were unable to convert, whilst the opposition managed just one and converted to a goal.
Ives continued with new invigoration and fight in the second half to try and compete with the energy that the opposition provided and changed some of the tactics by using longer balls to the front men which almost paid dividends where morgan managed to create two one on ones, but unfortunately these were not converted with their keeper determined to keep a clean sheet.
The game can be remembered for if only as at that time we would have drawn level at 2-2, but within 10 minutes the opposition managed to create space and a long reverse backward shot ended Ives hearts and fight and the whistle went soon afterwards.
The game was close, but the opposition with their energy probably deserved the win, but 3-0 was a flattering result in the end as it felt like it was a lot closer, and Ives rue the missed opportunities.
We will fight (not literally Jago!) again when we march on to Kettering next week.
